He was the youngest son of Thomas Hope, the author. He began, in partnership with John Douglas Cook "The Saturday Review of Politics, Literature, Science and Art" and was a successful author with the writing of his novel "Strickly Tied Up." He was very active politically, seriously interested in archeology and the Church of England and a frequent author.
