About This Item

Berlin: Paul Cassirer, 1931. Hardcover. Fair+ (Spine has substantial wear and is missing most material; text pages are aging only slightly; plate pages are clean; a candidate for rebinding, although the marble boards are nice.). Olive and marbled paper boards with smooth black leather-like spine and corners; brown title blocks and gilt letters on spine, 188 text pp. followed by 103 BW plates on pages. Text is in German. Volume 5 in the series, Die Altniederlandische Malerei. The focus here is on the life and works of Early Netherlandish painters Joos Van Cleve (1490-1541). Jan Provost (1469-1525), and Joachim Patenier (ca 1475-1524). Opening narratives explore the artists' circumstances and techniques. Margin references point the reader to the appropriate BW plates in the section half of the book.
