George Louis Palmella Busson Du Maurier (1834-1896) worked as an illustrator and cartoonist (mainly for "Punch"); with his eyesight failing, he turned to writing. This is a Near Fine copy of his third, posthumously-published fantasy/speculative fiction novel. The First English edition (published one year after the US). Dark blue smooth decorative cloth binding with an illustrated front cover; gilt lettering on the spine and the front. Clean and fresh text; 471 pages, with four pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. List of author's works and frontis portrait. Top-edge is gilt, others rough-cut. Mild bumps to the corners, else Fine. A superior copy of this interesting early "science fiction" novel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First UK Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket.
