Boston: Massachusetts Sabbath School Society, 1867. 1st ed. Hardcover. Very Good. frontis (portrait), illustration (portrait), 357p. Cloth. Scattered brown spotting and foxing (heavy on plates and in some margins). Name on endpaper. James and Edward were the sons of a Protestant missionary to Turkey. They returned to the U.S. for schooling. Both enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War. James served as Chaplain with the 2nd U.S. Colored Troops (pp. 118-206); Edward served with Company K of the 57th Massachusetts Regiment (pp. 288-357). Neither brother survived the war.
