Brown cloth with blind-stamped lettering and borders to front, spine faded with a shallow vertical wrinkle and touch of end-wear, lettering to fr. somewhat dull, just a hint of outer corner rubbing, otherwise clean and unworn, in protective acetate wrap-around sleeve as acquired. . x + 110, 2 early small sigs to fr. end-paper, one dated 1869, erasable short pencil note re: date to top fr. pastedown, erasable pencil date and sig. 'Derek Gibson' verso fr. end-paper (this being Derek Gair Gibson, 1935-2021, eminent pioneering cardiologist and also a keen book collector), tanning spots and tanned edges to end-papers, more or less routine for books this age and genre. Dating problematical but between 1850 and 1858, a listed copy of the 9th edition having an 1859 sig. and a reference to 1849 as 'last year' on p. 104. 8.5 cm x 14.5 cm
