About This Item

Charleston, SC, USA: The History Press, 2010. Soft cover. Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 144pp, with numerous black and white illustrations. In laminated, illustrated card covers. Signed by the author on the title page. 8vo. Very slightly bumped on edges, else neat, clean, bright and tight throughout. A deconstruction of the legend of Agnes Surriage - the real life New England Pygmalion who found her own Henry Higgins. She modelled herself on the codfish widows, the wives of early Marblehead fishermen who managed home and family for seven months of the year while their husbands were away.
