With rare dust jacket, a later printing (1901) of the First Edition. 8vo. 268, [6] pp. The heart of the book are Japanese stories and fantasies, but also pieces on aspects of Japanese culture -- old Japanese songs, Japanese female names, the cicada insect. Last four unpaginated pages are ads contain ads for three Hearn titles. Dust jacket chipped by lower spine tip. Cloth binding with small loss by lower rear spine tip. Interior-wise clean and tight. Former owner's name written lightly in red ink over textual info on title page.
Synopsis
This a collection of Japanese folk tales about the supernatural, gleaned by Lafcadio Hearn during his life in Japan. At least one of these stories (the reconciliation) featured in the 1960's classic Japanese movie 'Kwaidan' (pronounced 'Kai-dan in modern Japanese).
