About This Item
Original manuscript. c.1860. Original manuscript in ink contained within a lined notebook, c.72pp. (around a third of the book, with the remaining pages blank). Contemporary dark green half morocco over marbled paper-covered boards. Original Bath bookseller's label to the front pastedown. Three additional sheets of recipes loosely laid in. Condition is very good, the binding with rubbing to the boards, chipping to the spine ends and wear to the extremities. The contents with several pages excised at the rear, occasional light foxing and the odd minor mark are otherwise in very good order. A mid nineteenth-century recipe book belonging to F. Myers of 22 Bennett Street, Bath, including recipes for "Damson Cheese", "Champagne Wine", beef-steak pie, ginger drops, "toffee for Isabella (of course)", "Nottingham Pudding" and "A good Madeira Cake", amongst others, as well as for several medicinal treatments and recipes for household products (from cough medicine to shaving cream), in addition to instructions for other miscellaneous endeavours ("to set chalk drawings", "a good cement for sticking shells on card board", and "artificial coral"). At the beginning is also a list of addresses for suppliers of various goods, for example, "Eve & Phythian / Grocers / Strand / London / For British wines / and marmalades". Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
