About This Item

New York City, NY: Scribner, 2016. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/As New Dust Jacket.. New York City, NY: Scribner, 2016. Hardcover. As New/As New. First Edition/First Printing. 275 pages. The author's sixteenth novel. Now considered a contemporary classic. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly copies that are signed on a tipped-in page. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original only. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Don DeLillo's "Zero K". His magnanimous new novel, published in the year of his 80th birthday. It took him more than five years to write, and he has suggested that it may be his last. "The wisest, richest, funniest, and most moving novel in years from Don DeLillo: An ode to language, a meditation on death, and an embrace of life" (Publisher's blurb) . "His bleak humor and edged insight, the alertness and vitality of his prose, the vast, poetic extrapolations are all evident. So is the visceral quickness and wit in the sentences. This is one of the constant pleasures of a DeLillo novel: The talk, the shop talk, the comic talk, the cosmic talk, the way the characters feel language, its sonics, the moral and emotional pressures" (Sam Lipsyte) . An absolute "must-have" title for Don DeLillo collectors. This copy is very prominently and beautifully signed, placed, and dated (the day before publication) in black ink-pen on the title page by the author: "Don DeLillo 5/2/16 NYC". It is signed directly on the page itself, not on a tipped-in page, as most copies available online are. DeLillo launched his novel in New York City the day before its official release. It comes with a rare and pristine copy of the lovely Souvenir Material of the event during which his signature was obtained. This title is a contemporary classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed, placed, and pre-publication dated copy of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: DeLillo seldom does public signings, and limits the number of books he signs when he does. A copy that is not only signed, but also placed and dated by him, is rare indeed. Signed copies of his books are usually available from the publisher, pre-signed on a tipped-in page only. A rare signed copy thus. Regarded by the literary critic Harold Bloom as one of the canonical writers of the 20th century. Winner of the PEN/Faulkner Award, the Pulitzer Prize, and the Jerusalem Prize in 1999, the first American writer to be so honored, among numerous other literary prizes. "Underworld" was selected as the second most important work of American fiction of the last 25 years by The New York Times panel of writers, editors, and critics. "Libra" and "White Noise" were included in the Top 20 list. One of the greatest writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER DON DELILLO TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1501135392.
