New York: The First Zen Institute of America, 1958. Ruth Fuller Sasaki, married to Sokei-an and mother in law of Alan Watts, was one of the most influential Americans on Zen Buddhism. Great ASSOCIATION COPY warmly inscribed in year of publication by Ruth Fuller Sasaki to Phillipp Karl Eidmann. "To Philipp Eidmann with affectionate regards. Ruth F. Sasaki. Ryosen-an Daitoku-ji, June 3, 1958." Philipp Eidmann studied for ten years in Japan, was ordained as a cleric of the Nishi Hongwanji with a M.A. degree in Shin Buddhism from Ryukoku University, Kyoto Japan. He was the first American to attain the academic rank of Hokyo (Consular in Teaching) through the Hongwanji. Eidmann published "The Unimpeded Single Way: A Brief Introduction to the Teachings of Shin Buddhism According to the Hongwanji Tradition." He published numerous articles on Buddhist doctrine and history in English, Japanese, Portugese, and German. He was also an accredited teacher of the Japanese arts of tea ceremony and flower arrangement. A clean, unmarked association copy with only slight sunning to edges of the wrappers. .
