Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Full title: "York Castle, in the Nineteenth Century; being an account of all the principal offences committed in Yorkshire, from the Year 1800 to the present period, With the Lives of the Capital Offenders accompanied with Interesting Anecdotes, Important Disclosures & Confessions Obtained from Authentic Sources and Under High Magisterial Authority." Recent half-leather with marbled boards, black spine-label with gilt lettering and simple gilt decoration on spine. Vignette title (with female figure holding scales and an overseeing eye) gives date of 1829, plain title shows date of 1831. Includes title-vignette, Frontis plate shows "Martin Slack in the act of Poisoning his Child" drawn by J Rhodes and engraved by J Lucas and S Stears; and plate showing "Winterbottom's attack on Newton", N other illustrations. Sound binding, untrimmed pages, foxing to plates. Withdrawn stamp and reference numbers on reverse of plain title-page, blind stamp "City of York Public Library" on plates and some other pages.
