About This Item
A literary landmark: the first English-language short story collection by a Japanese American writer. Originally it was to be published in 1942, but like others of Japanese ancestry the author was interned during WWII, at the Topaz Relocation Center, and lingering anti-Asian racism (to be blunt) postponed publication for years after the war had ended. Introduction by William Saroyan, who was quite a heavyweight author at the time, although now has become somewhat obscure. Uncommon in the first edition, downright scarce signed.
