Illustrated end pages, showing an industrial illustration – multiple factories spewing smoke in the sky stop the text is illustrated with black-and-white the photography and illustrations from the year 1857. Green coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the back strip. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with gold and black coloured titles to the front panel and to shades of blue and black coloured titles to the back strip. Using month by month the author has detailed the goings on in Britain in the year 1857 – the year the climax of the Indian Mutiny, the publication of Little Dorrit, the year that Prince Albert became Prince Consort, of the trial of Madeleine Smith and the passing of the controversial Divorce Bill – to mention but a few events. Softening and fading of the back strip edges with rubbing of the book edges along with minor fading. Age toning and some marks to the text block edges with age toning of the pages. A little creasing of the top dustwrapper edge with a small tear the top right hand corner of the back strip. Rubbing of the dustwrapper and minor sunning of the back strip.
