Brownish marbled paper covered boards. Spine is missing. Boards are worn on the edges and covers. Hinges are cracked. Remnants of glue visible on the outer joints. Contents pages iii, iv are loose. Interior text is in good condition with occasional light foxing. Book seller label from "J. W. Burke & Co., Macon, Georgia" located at the bottom on the rear paste down. Pencil name of Wm. W. Hicks located on the title page. Red ink stamped name of Ellison S. Smyth located on the front paste down. A fair copy of an obscure reconstruction publication in South Carolina. Some of the article headings include - "The Status and Prospects of the Negro"; "The Financial Condition of South Carolina"; "Philosophy of War"; "Philosophy of Radicalism"; "Rambles in Mexico"; "Ex-Governor Perry Reply to Colonel Hayne"; "Morality of Round-Dancing"; "Antagonisms of Character in America" and many more articles.
