London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1889. 8vo. [4], 283, [1] pp., plus 16 pp. publisher’s catalogue dated August, 1889. Red publisher’s cloth, black lettering on front cover & spine (minor thumbing & soiling to fore-edges, edgewear, slight bumping to couple corners), still VG copy. First edition, early printing, of this absurd and engrossing mystery set against the backdrop of plotting of the heirs of a survivors of a Tontine scheme, frantic endeavors to get rid of a corpse, and further complications. Prideaux, 29, pp. 67-68. This was originally to have been published as the The Finsbury Tontine, or A Game of Bluff.
