It was adapted in the 1960s into a black-comedy film starring many great British actors.This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Bright red cloth binding, titled in black on the front cover and in gilt on the spine. Clean text; 283 pages; with a 16-page catalog ["August 1889"] in the rear. Decorative endpapers featuring a sailing ship. Contemporary signature in ink on the Title Page; bookplate of the collector and bibliographer Adrian Homer Goldstone (1897-1977) on the front paste-down. Mildly rubbed, with a faded to brown spine [gilt remains bright]; very occasionally, some faint spots within textblock. A solid and attractive copy. In an archival plastic protector.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
