Contains over 2,500 entries & 10,000 footnotes the editing of which took six years." This odd volume iii and the following odd volume iv contain some of the author's most intersting work. They cover his entire career: service in the U.S. Army and as Indian agent, as Congressman, as Governor of Tennessee, in the Texas Revolution, in the Texas Republic, as U.S. Senator, an as Governor of Texas.
