Byrd was an Indian trader, explorer, member of the House of Burgesses (1679-1682), member of the governor's Council (1683-1704), and auditor and receiver-general (1688-1704).<br /> <br /> #166 of only 500 copies produced. Signed and inscribed by Col. William Byrd's great, great, granddaughter Anne Harrison Byrd on the FFEP. PO bookplate of George Harrison Byrd, Anne's father and great grandson of Col. Byrd on the FFEP. Byrd's bookplate designed by Edwin Davis French. Plate of the "Colonial Dames of America" on the front pastedown. The book was a gift to the "Dames" by Anne in February of 1903. Edited by John Spencer Bassett. Original paper binding with cloth DJ. TEG. Fore-edge and bottom gutter uncut. Light wear to DJ edges and paper spine label. <br /> <br /> A unique copy with a direct connection to the historic Byrd family of Virginia. Quite scarce.
