Portland: The Press of the Oregon Historical Society, 1985 The story of the Nikolai, which grounded in 1808 in what is modern northern Washington, and the crew lived as captives among the Hohs, Quileutes, and Makahs. This book includes two accounts, one fully translated into English fro the first time. From the collection of Wayne Prescott Suttles, renowned anthropologist, scholar, and linguist regarding many Pacific cultures, and especially the U.S. Pacific Northwest Coast Salish people. His stamp to the ffep. Provenance provided upon request. Slim strip of paper w/ note in Dr. Suttles' hand laid in. Condition notes: 110 numbered pp +1; HB w/DJ. Pages: clean, bright, tight, frontis; 1 or 2 erasable pencil marks. Cover: lt brown boards w/ denim backstrip, gilt titles spine; minimal shelfwear. DJ: unclipped, heavy cream paper, blue artwork front, blue/black titles front/spine; minimal edge/shelfwear, spine and edges mildly sunned, a few faint smudges.
