New York: Knopf, 1956. First Edition - American. Signed by the cast and crew of the acclaimed film to the book’s author Hammond Innes, including Gary Cooper and Charlton Heston with the following inscriptions: “and Many thanks for ‘Patch’ [Cooper’s character, Gideon Patch], Sincerely, Gary Cooper” and “With admiration for the book and thanks for the part! Charlton Heston.” With the signatures of cast and crew: “Michael Anderson (director), Julian Blaustein (executive producer), Richard Harris, Michael Redgrave, Virginia McKenna, Emlyn Williams, Alexander Knox, Cecil Parker, Peter Illing, Ben Wright, and John Le Mesurier. Hammond Innes’s personal copy with his bookplate and label “From the Library of Hammond Innes” affixed to the front pastedown. Faint hint of dust soiling to the cloth at the spine, else a fine fresh copy in a dust jacket with a slight trace of sunning at spine and a couple of tiny nicks. One of the great nautical novels of all-time.
