About This Item

Avery Color Studios, 1977. First Edition. Softcover. Near Fine/In illustrated wraps. Vintage Softcover, Stated First Edition December 1977. Avery Color Studios. AuTrain, Mich. 190 pages. Near Fine, in illustrated wraps. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to covers. No previous owner markings - all pages are clean, unmarked and evenly toned. Many B&W photographs, diagrams and a multi-color map of her last voyage. The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was an American Great Lakes freighter that sank in Lake Superior during a storm on November 10, 1975, with the loss of the entire crew of 29 men. She was the largest ship on North America's Great Lakes and remains the largest to have sunk there. The tragedy was immortalized by Canadian singer Gordon Lightfoot in a very haunting and unforgettable tune. The aftermath led to changes in Great Lakes shipping regulations and practices that included mandatory survival suits, depth finders, positioning systems, increased freeboard, and more frequent inspection of vessels. A superb Vintage First Edition. LOC SSS-05
