About This Item

Geneva, Switzerland: World Meteorological Organization , 1975. Minor edge and corner wear, lightly scuffed and scratched, some fading along the edges and spine, gently shelf worn, ex-library with the usual library markings, overall a nice used first edition! Extremely rare and hard-to-find title! Orange wrapper with black lettering. 92 informative and educational pages! Very very scarce and out-of-print! "Over recent years there has been a marked increase in the study of the various methods which influence the climate of the soil and the microclimate near the soil surface at a given site. Of considerable importance among these methods is mulching, which is the covering of a soil surface with crop residue or other material such as plastic. Mulching has a marked effect on the climate of the soil, the effects being found in the temperature and moisture regimes of the soil, on erosion and soil physics, on pests, diseases, and the growth of weeds, as well as on the growth and ytield of crops. Many of the papers dealing with the effects of mulches on soil climate, which were published between 1954 and 1970, have been studied for this review. Each part summarizes the experimental evidence published for different crops including: tree fruits, temperate horticulture, soft fruit, vegetables and flowers, forestry, grasses and cereals, and also tropical and subtropical crops....." ----- from the Summary.. First Edition / First Printing. Trade Paperback. Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
