Blue coloured endpapers. The text is illustrated with various reproductions of comics and illustrators, from around the world. Between pages 353 two page 416 there are colour reproductions of comics. Red coloured cloth covered boards with black coloured embossed illustration and titles to the front panel and back strip. Illustrated dustwrapper with red coloured titles to the front panel and back strip. Illustrated image of the editors to the rear dustwrapper panel. "Covering in one volume the vast field of comic art since its inception, this monumental work contains more than 1200 cross-referenced entries in alphabetical order on comic features, artists and writers from the United States and the world. The biographical entries provide a summary of the most important authors' lives and careers, with emphasis on their work in the comic field, their stylistic and thematic contributions, their influence on other artists, and their achievements in general." -- from the front fold over panel blurb. A little softening of the back strip edges and rubbing of the book corners. Scattered foxing to the text block edges. Fading along the top edge and front fore edge of the three front endpaper. The text itself is clean, bright and unannotated. The dustwrapper is somewhat "loose". Creasing along with small tears to the top dustwrapper edge and there is chipping also present to the top dustwrapper corners and top back strip edge with a few small tears to the lower edge. Sunning of the dustwrapper with a little fading of the back strip. Faint foxing to the verso. This is the first UK edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [8], 9 - 785, [5] pages,.
