Boston: Crosby, Nichols, Lee and Co, 1860. Hardcover. Very Good +. 749 p., frontispiece, added engraved title page, and 5 leaves of engraved plates, all with tissue guards; 25 cm. Contemporary full calf with 6 spine compartments between raised bands; gilt-tooled title in second compartment: Cowper's Complete Works. Gilt-tooled decoration in remaining compartments; double gilt-ruled border on each board, with gilt-rolled decoration on board edges and turn-ins. All page edges gilt. Decorated endpapers. Frontispiece is a portrait of Cowper engraved by A. H. Ritchie, based on art by Romney. Title vignette on added engraved title page, with title: The Life and Works of William Cowper. Scarce. In Very Good+ Condition: front joint sensitively repaired; ends of spine and corners rubbed, with minor loss at head of spine; frontispiece and added engraved title page are foxed; the 5 leaves of engraved plates have left faint shadows on facing pages of text; otherwise, clean and tight.
