Printed for Tho. Basset, Ric. Chiswell, Tho. Sawbridge, Charles Mearn, and Charles Brome, 1686. 1686 Folio. [xviii], 316, [xii], [xiv], 102, [viii], 52, [vi], 73, [v] p. Engraved portrait signed R. White sculpsit. Two engraved plates. Title page printed in red and black. Contemporary sprinkled calf binding with a discreet repair at the foot of the spine. The leather with small patches of surface loss. Internally clean and crisp, with good margins. Armorial bookplate of William Markham of Becca Lodge, Yorks. Inscribed E Libris Thomae Thoroton (who may have been the first owner) on a front flyleaf. The first and only early collected edition. This is the only early collection of Browne's works and the beauty of his latinate prose style was only rediscovered by the Victorians when Wilkin's edition appeared in 1836
