New York: David McKay, 1919. A fine copy of the first edition in scarce dust wrapper with some soiling and wear. All of the first issue points except gilt titles on the cover. All other points match Nudelman A53. The pictorial pastedown on the front cover is most often found with scratches and other problems. This copy is exceptionally nice.

Newcastle: Emerson Charnely, and Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1820 A good copy of the large paper 1st edition in contemporary half leather binding. This edition was printed on thicker high quality paper. With frontispiece portrait of Thomas Bewick, 4 portraits of Bewick by different engravers, and numerous engravings to illustrate the Fables. Contents: frontispiece; title page with small ink signature to top dated 1824; advertisement; Memoir; Catalogue; portraits; table of contents; select fables - pp1-332. The binding has gilt-lined raised bands to the spine and marbled boards. Page edges lightly marbled. The binding has wear to corners and the top and bottom of the spine but is in very good clean condition. There are some faded areas to the foredge marbling. The original endpapers are present. The preliminaries and the frontispiece are very spotty, and the frontispiece has a small repaired section in the gutter. LONDON : Hodder & Stoughton, 1908 A very good copy of the 1st trade edition with 40 tipped in colour plates by Edmund Dulac. In original green decorative cloth binding with gilt design on front board and spine. The binding is clean with bright gilt to the front board and spine. It has been professionally rebacked so is sound and tight. There is slight marking at the bottom edge of the front board and some very slightly paler areas on the back board. Corners with light wear. The original green endpapers are present with an inscription dated Xmas 1908 to the fep. There is some light foxing to the half title. Contents in very good condition being very clean with some light toning to page edges. The plate at p11 has a small corner crease and the tissue guard to the plate at p126 is creased.

SCARCE in contemporary fine binding, two volumes in polished calf, the backs with black and red morocco labels and intricate gilt tooling, marbled end papers and edges, the bookplates of Walmer Castle and a later 20th c. owner front end papers, prior owner inscriptions in pencil and ink concerning Walmer Castle and Cattermole's engravings, "considered to be some of his finest". Very Good, the calf rubbed and soiled. Both volumes with frontis engravings and engraved title pages, Vol. I with 7 engravings in text, Vol. II with 13 in text. The title pages call for 15 in Vol. I and 13 in Vol. II, leaving the possibility of 4 missing engravings, however no evidence of removal. . First Edition. Polished Calf. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
