first Dublin edition 3 vols. 8vo. [4 (general title & contents)], 61, [1 (blank)], [6 (sectional title & contents)], 65-580; [4 (title & contents)], 655, [1 (blank)]; [4 (title & contents)], 602pp., contemporary bold Irish tree calf, gilt rolled border on sides, smooth spines richly gilt decorated in panels (two different large gilt tools at panel centres surrounded by smaller gilt tools), russet title and very dark blue numbering labels gilt, marbled endpapers, sprinkled edges, vol. 1 with front joint cracked and crack at head of rear joint, slight cracking to joints of vol. 2, some loss to gilt on spines, else a very good and handsome copy.
ESTC t52809 TODD Burke Bibliography, 79h Vol. II has (as usual) the imprint 'Printed by William Porter, for R. Cross' [et alia] and is dated 1793. (vide Todd). The other volumes are dated 1792.
The first three volumes of the collected Works were first published in quarto volumes in London in May 1792. These volumes are the Irish reprint of those London volumes. The quarto London Works was later extended to eight volumes, Vols.4-8 being published by Rivingtons, 1802-1827, but no further volumes were added to the Irish edition. These three volumes are the first and only Irish printed collected Works.
