About This Item
New York: D. Appleton & Company. Good+. 1885. First Edition. Hardcover. Woodcut figures and diagrams; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 248 pages; 1885 D. Appleton & Company. HC 1st edition. Soundly bound and decent in original heavy green cloth with pictorial title design to cover and lettering at spine in gilt. A striking and well conceived title by a pioneering advocate for sanitary reform in the cause of the prevention of disease and better. The book devotes considerable space to the matters of plumbing design in buildings, accompanied by technical details and diagrams. Mrs Plunkett also devotes considerable time to explaining the causes and prevention of diseases caused by poor sanitation. Erudite but practical, the book has become rather uncommon in the marketplace. This copy with moderate shelf soiling to cover board, trace fray to cloth at spine ends and corner tips. The half-title page appears to have been removed but the foliage patterned endpapers are complete and sound. G++ .
