About This Item

Washington: Associated Publishers, 1970. 2nd ed. Hardcover. Very Good/Fair. photos, xviii, 187p. Original violet cloth. dj. 19cm. Jacket looks pretty good but has some mostly hidden stains as well as several small chips and wrinkling. The book is sound and clean except for a former owner's name on endpaper and some mostly unobtrusive staining. The first edition (1931) contained seven biographical sketches (Lucy Craft Laney, Maggie Lena Walker, Janie Porter Barrett, Mary McLeod Bethune, Nannie Helen Burroughs, Charlotte Hawkins Brown and Jane Edna Hunter). *Charles H. Wesley and *Thelma D. Perry added five biographical sketches to this second edition: Harriet Tubman, Fanny Muriel Jackson Coppin, Mary Louise Baldwin, Ida B. Wells Barnett and Hallie Quinn Brown -- additionally, the entry for Mary McLeod Bethune was expanded in the second edition.
