The author used oral history interviews, popular fiction, social science surveys, and papers by sociologists and reformers to produce this social and cultural history of single wage-earning women in Chicago between 1880 and 1930, who did not live with family or other relatives, called "women adrift" at that time. Book is in Near Fine Condition: one page corner creased; clean and tight. Dust jacket is in Near Fine -Condition: edges lightly rubbed; 1 closed tear of 1 cm. from upper edge of back section; clean and bright.
