About This Item
1927. TAUT, Bruno. Ein Wohn Haus. [iv], 118, [2] pp. Illustrated with 104 photos, 72 architectural plans, 1 colour plate, and 1 folding "keyboard" colour chart. 8vo., bound in publisher's cloth and dust-wrapper. Stuttgart: W. Keller & Co 1927. First edition, later issue. In the series "Kosmos-Haus-Bücher," with typography (including binding) by Johannes Molzahn of Magdeburg. Taut uses his own family home as a prototype for his ideal affordable family house. "An essential part of Taut's work must be seen in his use of color which he had reintroduced to architecture during his Expressionist period. This provided for a great amount of articulation in the visual environment of standardized living units" (H.H. Waechter, Macmillan Encyclopedia of Architects). Taut indicates by letters on the floor plan in the text the colours to be used - these letters tie in to the fold-out lettered colour paint strip at the back. An unusually fine copy with the rare, very slightly soiled dust wrapper. Andel, Avant Garde Page Design 317.
