This is Bowles' first-person account of his life as a novelist, short story writer, travel essayist, composer and translator as well as his relationship with such notable artists as Aaron Copland, Gertrude Stein, William Burroughs, Tennessee Williams, Gore Vidal and Truman Capote. Bowles spent most of mature artistic life in Morocco and he writes extensively of his life there and his marriage in 1938 to another gifted writer, Jane Auer Bowles.
