Slim 12mo pamphlet in the original salmon printed wrappers (some light wear and curling at corners, still a very good copy preserved in a felt-lined 1/4 brown morocco clamshell case. Boston: Ticknor & Fields, 1865. Scarce first edition, with the publisher's yellow slip tipped-in before title, referring to previous appearance in The Atlantic Monthly.<br/> <br/> A dramatic sketch of a man who spends his life atoning for a hot-headed moment of his youth. Johnson's High Spots (1929), p. 36: "Issued in wrappers. There is a whisper about a certain small slip of errata or something that should go with the first printing. Nothing has yet been definitively established in regard to a point of issue."<br/> <br/>
