About This Item
1915. London & Toronto: J.M. Dent & Sons, 1915. Original olive green cloth, with dust jacket.
First Edition of this group of four maritime tales -- "The Planter of Malata," "The Partner," "The Inn of the Two Witches" and "Because of the Dollars." None of these has withstood the test of time, though the last one became a bit better known after Conrad dramatized it, as "Laughing Anne." This copy is bound in the usual vertically-ribbed cloth (a few are in linen-grain cloth, with no known priority). The volume is in fine, bright condition; the rather scarce dust jacket is in good-to-very good condition (wear at some edges, archival restoration on the back-side of the folds). Supino A18.1.0 (this very copy); Cagle A18a(1). Provenance: discreet bookplate of the Conrad bibliographer David J. Supino.
