Title in orange and black. 8vo, publisher's printed wrappers, backstrip leaning; dust jacket, skillful paper restorations to folds, spine panel and bottom edges on verso, corners clipped; contents clean, 1 page publisher's adverts at end. Scarce in jacket. Filmed three times, most memorably in 1974 by Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky. Not published in another language until the French edition in 1964, and not in English until the Walker edition in 1970.

Binding is tight and square with light scuffing to upper spine end. Inside clean, only lightest spotting to first pages. No marks or inscriptions. In bright, original, first state dust jacket with expertly repaired large tear to front cover and neatly restored loss to top edge and spine extremities. NY, Macmillan, 1922, first edition, first printing, dust jacket. Hardcover.. One of 4,348 copies, frontispiece of a young Jack London as a sailor, the book is illustrated by G. M. Richards, interestingly, the jacket indicates that the book is aimed at ages 12-15, the book includes a preface by his widow, Charmian, dated in 1922, the date of publication, this group of stories includes Typhoon Off the Coast of Japan which she notes as the first London story ever written for publication, jacketed copies of London's first editions are scarce. Book fore edge soiled, else a very solid copy while the jacket has uniform soiling, small chipping at edges, and the front flap is oddly cut, as usual, not affecting text.

Author's First Book, illustrated with Wolfe's own drawings, not only is this copy Signed by Wolfe on the half-title, but it's a presentation from Arnold Gingrich, editor of "Esquire" where some of this material was first published, laid in loosely is a typed letter signed by Gingrich presenting the book to Arthur E. Sudler, chairman of the board and president of Sudler & Hennessey, a healthcare communications company, a very young Wolfe is pictured on the rear cover, nattilly dressed, as usual. Jacket price-clipped, else fine.

10 x12.5cm. 28pp. Pictorial wrappers. One of a series of 6 tales written and illustrated by Edward Bawden for his children in 1944. It was redrawn on lithographic plates (by Sheila Robinson) for George Rainbird and Ruari McLean in 1952 in an edition of 350 copies of which 100 were for the personal use of the Bawdens. This is one of the latter copies Signed to the upper front cover by Edward Bawden: ' Best wishes from C & E.B. 1952'. The Book is in near Fine condition with just mild creasing to the upper corner of the last few pages. Wonderful colour illustrations throughout.
