About This Item

New York, New York, U.S.A.: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1957. New Edition 5th or later Printing. Hardcover. Very Good/Near Fine. Shepard, Ernest H.. First published in 1909 & never out of print since, this is a special edition from the original publishers (Scribner's) from 1953/54 (though a slightly later 1957 printing), in which illustrator E. H. Shepard's beloved drawings have been newly reproduced (as the original plates were worn out) with 6 brand new drawings created just for this book! Also with a special note from Shepard in which he discusses meeting the author & taking up the challenge to bring his stories to life. Hardcover small octavo has light tan-green cloth-covered boards with green leaf design & black drawings of the central characters to front, lettered in black to front & spine. Condition is VG: boards slightly warped, with light soiling & rubbing to bottom edges from shelf. Definite "old book" musty odor; please note if sensitive! Binding strong, hinges secure, pages creamy white & moderately tanned, unmarked save for old gift inscription to ffep. Scattered foxing to all outside page edges. The DJ is clipped at top flap, but $2.75 price is intact there. Protected by previous owner in mylar cover with black edging, it appears in Near fine condition, though the black edging is tearing in places. with light green boards & darker green decoration to front/lettering to spine is in VG-/Good+ condition: generally clean & tight, with, lovely old book smell. NO writing, underlining, or highlighting; NOT ex-lib. Flaws: Some random spotting to front boards, light soil/shelf dust to outside page edges. Price-clipped DJ downgraded to only Fair due to a large chip missing from top edge of front cover & a smaller one same edge of rear cover; smaller chips & edgewear all around. Nicely protected in new archival mylar coverOur photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have. Same day shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
