About This Item

San Francisco, CA: McSweeney's, 2009. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. As New/No Dust Jacket, As Issued.. San Francisco, CA: McSweeney's, 2009. Hardcover. As New/None, As Issued. First Edition/First Printing. 288 pages. The author's novel, based upon the children's classic and its film adaptation. The Hardcover "Fur-Covered" First Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. Published simultaneously with the regular trade edition in a small and limited first print run. The brilliant production is by Dave Eggers himself: Regular-sized volume format. Synthetic black fur-covered hard boards with Max's pair of eyes on the cover, as issued. Text by Dave Eggers. It is (loosely) based upon Maurice Sendak's "Where The Wild Things Are" (1962) and (more faithfully) upon the screenplay of Spike Jonze's film adaptation (2009), which was written by Eggers with the director. Printed on pristine-white, archival stock paper in the United States to the highest standards. In publisher's original shrinkwrap with a wraparound band that is pasted on the plastic, as issued. As such, the latter is integral to the edition: It contains the titles on the cover and the spine, and the publisher's blurb on the back cover. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Dave Eggers' "The Wild Things". His novelization of "Where The Wild Things Are". Lest anyone accuse Eggers of tampering with the beloved children's classic, the idea for the novel was suggested by Maurice Sendak himself (to whom the book is lovingly dedicated). "The Wild Things" is "about the confusions of a boy, Max, making his way in a world he can't control. His father is gone, his mother is spending time with a younger boyfriend, his sister is becoming a teenager and no longer has interest in him. At the same time, Max finds himself capable of startling acts of wildness: He wears a wolf suit, bites his mom, and can't always control his outbursts. During a fight at home, Max flees and runs away into the woods. He finds a boat there, jumps in, and ends up on the open sea, destination unknown. He lands on the island of The Wild Things, and soon he becomes their king. But things get complicated when Max realizes that The Wild Things want as much from him as he wants from them. Funny, dark, and alive, 'The Wild Things' is a timeless and time-tested tale for all ages" (Publisher's blurb). Sendak's picture book has evolved considerably in the course of its successive artistic transformations, with Sendak's permission and involvement. Sendak wrote the libretto for Oliver Knussen's opera, "Where The Wild Things Are" (1980). Now, again with his blessings, it is a major Hollywood film and an intriguing Dave Eggers novel. An absolute "must-have" title for Dave Eggers collectors. This title is now collectible. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover "Fur-Covered" Edition/First Printing still available online, is still in the publisher's original shrinkwrap, and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: The shrinkwrap is completely integral to the edition. Copies whose shrinkwrap has been removed and discarded do not have the same collectible value. A scarce copy thus. One of the most brilliant American writers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER COPY OF THIS AND OTHER DAVE EGGERS TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 1934781614.
