Cloth lightly chafed all over and wearing through along the edges. Tiny holes in front endpaper. Owner's inscription inside, dated 1881. Small stains and age-related blemishes here and there in text, and binding a little shaky from years of use. A readable copy, sturdy enough for normal handling. Memoirs of an American naturalist and frontiersman, with commentary on John James Audubon, Daniel Boone, and others. Illustrated with black and white engravings.

Chapters on Audubon, Wilson and ornithology along with such topics as bear hunting, elephant hunting in Africa, and Daniel Boone, the mustang, the Adirondack Lakes. Edgewear on publisher's red blindstamped cloth covers. Gilt decoration still bright on boards, a little faded on the spine. Some minor scattered foxing within. Bookplate on FEP. Brown stain, dime-sized, on bottom foreedge.
