Boston, Mass./ Cambridge, Mass.: Houghton Mifflin & Company/ Riverside Press, 1881 Electrotyped and Printed at H.O. Houghton & Company. Hard cover 12mo, (measuring 4 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches) in brown cloth with pictorial sprig of beach roses intertwined in gilt with title along front board and continuing to spine, 272 pp. Top edge gilt. The first nine poems in this collection are under the "Wild Roses of Cape Ann" heading; another 88 verses are included.**Author Lucy Larcom (1824-1893) was a Massachusetts-born poet and teacher who spent a decade working in the Lowell mills. She was a friend of John Greenleaf Whittier and his sister. Whittier was a mentor to Larcom, helping the Beverly, Mass. native break into the Boston literary scene, and providing ongoing editorial advice. Much of their correspondence has been preserved, and is a testament to a truly warm friendship based on mutual interests. The Poem "J.G.W., (dated 1877)" on page 176 is about Whittier. Condition Very Good with only very minor wear to head and foot of spine, somewhat along the front joint, and at tips. Overall, very clean. Moderate foxing to ffeps., moderately age-toned, binding firm. BAL 11358. Winship 193.. "Second Edition". Hard Cover. Very Good Plus.
