San Francisco: The Book Club of California, 1996. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. Edited by Wayne Bonnett. Tipped-in frontispiece portrait, with 35 line illustrations. First edition, limited to 400 copies. Representing more than fifty years of writing, the book is important for anyone interested in California history, literature, and the career of Oscar Lewis (1893-1992), one of California's outstanding historians and writers. Lewis also served for many years as the Secretary of The Book Club of California and established many of the programs that made the Club into a solid cultural institution. Included in the book are some of his short stories, excerpts from his books, humorous pieces, and comments on the books and writings of other authors. Original white paper-covered boards over a blue linen spine, stamped in silver. A fine copy in the original plain paper dust jacket.
