About This Item

New York; (1962): McGraw Hill. First Edition. Octavo. 201 pages, index. signed by Goldwater on front free endpaper. Whether it is his views on China, the U-2 incident, political infighting, one thing is clear he always took a consistent conservative position but was willing to listen to the otherside. Unlike the Republican Party of today, he understood the principles of conservativsm. He quotes liberally from the classic liberals of the day Walter Lippman, John F. Kennedy (particularly his "The Strategy of Peace". Early in the book, he speaks of his Conservative friends (Russell Kirk, Bill Buckley, Steven Shadegg. These are major names and writers on conservative thought virtually unknown today except by students of political history. A near fine copy bound in 1/4 black cloth over blue paper covered boards, spine lettering in red and white, tiny rub marks to head and foot, in an unclipped, pictorial dust jacket rubbed, small chip to upper edge, corners and spine ends and two closed edge tears along bottom edge.
