About This Item

Putnam Juvenile, 1981. 3rd Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. Book is clean with a square, tight binding and bright, white pages. Book has minor wear on the edges that is difficult to see in the scans. Dust jacket has minor wear including some fading to edges that is causing a bit of yellowing around the inside edges. Book has an inscription "To Chris .....Best Wishes Jean Fritz. Long ago in Ireland there was a man named Columba who loved books. Since books were still such a new thing, Columba always had a hard time finding one, and when he did, he had to copy it by hand. But sometimes people were jealous of their books and didn't want to share them. Longarad-of-the-Hairy-Legs was jealous. He wouldn't even let Columba see his book. Finian was a good friend and he did let Columba see his new book but he wouldn't let him copy it. But in the dark of the night.. So the drama begins and before it is over, the High King and armies of Irishmen are drawn into it. Saint Columba, one of the most human and lovable of the saints, should be, unofficially at least, the patron saint of all book lovers. His story, part-true, part-legend as all old stories are, is full of action and humor- -just the kind of story that Columba himself, with his grand voice, would like to tell. And wouldn't he have loved the elegance of the drawings? The book you see in the images is the actual book we have for sale. Why pay more? When you buy this book from us, you are helping to support a small brick and mortar family owned store.
