About This Item

Sunderland: Ceolfrith Gallery - Sunderland Arts Centre, 1980. First edition and first printing. Small oblong hardcover. 216 pages. An exhibition catalog for a show of the Chicago Imagists and some of their predecessors. Features a preface by Tony Knipe, an introduction by Victor Musgrave and essays by Dennis Adrian and Russell Bowman and with "Rantings and Recollections" by artist Roger Brown. Includes 159 illustrations of which 29 are in color and 15 photographs as well of works by: Roger Brown, James Falconer, Art Green, Phil Hanson, Gladys Nilsson, Jim Nutt, Ed Paschke, Christina Ramberg, Suellen Rocca, Barbara Rossi, H.C. Westermann, Karl Wirsum, Joseph Yoakum, and Ray Yoshida. A very near fine copy in gray cloth boards with a small spot to the bottom edge of the pages and in a near fine dust jacket with some very minute wear. An important and early look at the Chicago art scene that helped create the Hairy Who and other influential artists. A very nice copy of the much less common cloth version.
