Hardcover, large octavo bound in blue cloth lettered in gold on spine, in publisher's non price-clipped dust-jacket. 264 pages. Edited with notes and introduction by Fredson Bowers. Includes Whitman's List of Poems for a Third Edition and Index. Illustrated with photograph of Whitman in 1860 and three pages of holograph text from selected poems. First edition, first printing. "This edition offers a parallel text for a large group of previously unpublished Whitman holograph manuscripts with the first printed appearance of these texts in the 1860, or third, edition of Leaves of Grass." No previous ownership marks. Book is clean, square and unmarked. Dust-jacket lightly chipped at top of spine and front panel, with general wear from age, Jacket protcted by acetate covers. A very good+ copy in a near very good dust-jacket. .
