Boston & New York: Houghton Mifflin, 1896. Naturalist John Burroughs (1837-1921) was a close friend of Walt Whitman and his defender. This is his important study of the great American poet, presented in an attractive fine binding. Green paper-covered binding with olive cloth spine; gilt lettering on the spine and a decorative flower with titles on the front cover in black. Clean text; 268 pages; top-edge is gilt. Lacking the dustjacket, which as a presence nonetheless, with an offset to the paste-downs. Aside from the offset, a Fine copy. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket.
