About This Item
City Lights Books, 1957. First Edition. Trade Paperback. Unpaginated, 27 pages. Originally published in Dissent Magazine, this is Mailer's 'superficial reflections on the hipster,' with criticisms by Jean Malaquais and Ned Polsky followed by Mailer's responses. First edition (first printing). Very good in wrappers (paperback). Stains to covers and page corners, with considerable stains to the center pages with text still visible. Inscribed by the author: 'To Don Kaufmann, I think a year of my life went into writing this essay / Norman Mailer.' Kaufmann published one of the first critical studies of Mailer, Norman Mailer: The Countdown (The First Twenty Years).
