New York: Hurd and Houghton, 1870. "Although written more than 50 years ago this is still the best book about the White Mountains." - Bent, p. 2. The first edition was published in 1860, but this is the first printing to include albumen prints - 4 in all - to accompany the 60 engravings that illustrate the text. Bound in full green morocco with raised bands and gilt decoration. Front hinge cracked and reinforced with old tape repair. The albumen photos are in excellent condition, as is the entire text block. All edges gilt.. 20 cm. xv, (3), 403 pp. b/w engravings and albumen photographic prints.
