About This Item
London: Jill Norman and Hobhouse Ltd, 1982. Book. Illus. by Godwin, Fay, Photographer. Near Fine. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 9 1/4" x 7 3/4", 160 pages, Fay Godwin's noted black and white photographs. Fay Godwin has taken her camera to the heartland of whiskydom - the Spey valley and the wild mountains that surround it. Derek Cooper describes in vivid detail the battles between the smugglers and the gaugers, the rise of the legal distilleries in the nineteenth century and the region as it is today. Hb in dw, this copy has a single shortcoming, in that parts of the forward edges of pages have a light stain, largely not affecting the surface of the page; where it does, the light stain extends no more than 2mm from the page edge. Otherwise this is a near fine copy of a relatively uncommon Fay Godwin first edition. .
