About This Item
Boston: Houghton Mifflin Company. 1943. First edition. First edition. Signed by the author and inscribed with an original drawing. Original illustrated softcover with a red cloth spine. Every double page spread features a colour illustration of a different animal, each with a flap that, when lifted, reveals the animal's baby. A very good copy, the binding firm and clean, the extremities a little rubbed and creased. There is the odd infrequent spot internally, the contents are otherwise clean throughout, with all flaps present and intact. A lovely inscribed copy, scarce thus. Inscribed by H. A. Rey alongside a horse doodle in black ink on the first page "To Regan Jessett / [horse drawing] / H. A. Rey". Margret and H. A. Rey were a German-American husband and wife team who created many beloved children's books, though they are best known for the hugely popular 'Curious George' series starring an adventurous monkey which has been adapted into various animations (and even a video game). Their early works published by Houghton Mifflin list H. A. Rey alone as the author, however the pair stated that they created all of their books together, and they are both credited in their later publications. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. Lucius Books welcomes direct contact with our customers.
