Early edition of Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, signed by the author with a "Wild Thing" illustration.. Oblong quarto, [48pp]. Illustrated boards. Stated copyright date of 1963 on title page, with "Harper Crest Library Edition" on rear cover. Blue endpapers, rear free endpaper partially cut away. Mylar dust jacket previously affixed to pastedown endpapers, with some glue residue on both. Previous ownership stamp on front flyleaf and title page. Solid, clean text block, free of any marks or notations. In the publisher's dust jacket, $5.95 on front flap, clipped lower corner of front flap, short closed tear to rear panel, light soiling, Caldecott Medal label on front panel. "Reprinted in 1974" stated on rear flap of dust jacket. This copy is inscribed by the author with a sketch of a "Wild Thing" saying "Boo!" on front free endpaper.

Where the Wild Things Are is a 1963 children's picture book by American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, originally published by Harper & Row. The book has been adapted into other media several times, including an animated short, a 1980 opera, and, in 2009, a live-action feature film adaptation. According to HarperCollins, the book has sold over 19 million copies worldwide as of 2008.
